Para que no se olviden / So they not be forgotten

In Córdoba, the faces of still-missing Argentinians are hung in the streets, in an act of both remembrance and anger at the lack of recognition after a cruel period of state terrorism and military dictatorship in 1976-83.

Even now there’s a whole generation of Argentinians who do not know where their family members are; or who are aged around 40 and now finding out that their ‘family’ they were raised in actually stole them from a non-state-supporting family.

I wish I would have known about this before coming to Argentina as it seems so disrespectful to not have known such a brutal piece of history… but these photos are a powerful way to educate outsiders and maintain citizens’ memories.
